HCP Associates Completes Research Project Exploring Population Growth and Development in Hillsborough County
TAMPA, Fla. (June 15, 2021) – HCP presented the findings of their latest community outreach study on population growth and land use to the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission. The Planning Commission’s mission is to promote, coordinate, and facilitate all people’s involvement in the community’s long-range planning. In this, they aim to improve economic development and quality of life within the region and provide value-add services to residents.
Hillsborough County’s population is proliferating. According to the Tampa Bay EDC, the region is forecast to grow 8.7% from 2019-2024 – faster than the national and statewide averages. The planning commission wanted to understand how residents in unincorporated Hillsborough County felt about this growth. Following consultations in 2020, HCP and the Planning Commission devised a multi-modal outreach methodology to gather representative feedback on growth-related issues.
“Population growth is the reality in Hillsborough County,” said Robert Allen, Vice President at HCP Associates and the study’s lead. “The results unambiguously show that unincorporated Hillsborough County values housing affordability. In doing this work, the county planners gain valuable insight into how to balance and address these various topics in both short term and long-term future planning efforts.”
Residents’ feedback covered several themes, including roadways, public transportation, growth limitations, and infrastructure.
