HCP Delivers Annual Citizen Research Study to Pinellas Board of County Commissioners
CLEARWATER, Fla. (April 11, 2014) HCP Senior Research Manager, Sarah Lindemuth, presented the findings from the study this week to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) prior the upcoming 2015 budget sessions.
In the first quarter of 2014, Pinellas County approved HCP’s contract to conduct citizen research on its behalf; this is the fourth consecutive year. The survey is important to the county in that it reveals citizen needs for changes or improvements to service delivery; this helps ensure the county that it is providing evidence-based support.
Lindemuth said, “Many of the questions remain consistent from year to year, which helps the BOCC see changes in citizen responses to quality of life and services in Pinellas County, and respond accordingly. It would be very easy for the Board to focus solely on the many positive trends noted within the data; instead they seek details regarding aspects of lesser satisfaction, in hopes of working to further increase those levels.”
The telephonic survey reflects a representative sampling of Pinellas County residents. Select questions remain consistent each year to allow for trending, while others can be removed and replaced to enable citizens to weigh in on topics of timely relevance.
The study has progressed in depth of questions and scope of respondents since the initial survey in 2011. During the past three years, HCP has become an integral contributor to discussions with various county departments so they may represent citizen perspective in organizational, governmental, and even policy decision-making.
