City of Tampa

Client: City of Tampa
Industry: Economic Development/Government

Challenge:

As part of its ongoing community engagement efforts, the City of Tampa sought to understand its residents perceptions on a broad range of topics, including the Mayors Transforming Tampas Tomorrow (T3) initiative. Created by Mayor Jane Castor, the T3 initiative is designed to address Tampa’s issues and find solutions through advisory groups on several important topics: transportation, development services, workforce development, housing affordability, and sustainability & resilience.

Solution:

HCP Associates partnered with the City to implement an annual survey methodology to obtain statistically valid information that reflects the City’s diverse demographics and neighborhoods.

The City of Tampa has rapidly grown in the last decade. According to the U.S. Census, the population of the City has increased by 27% from 2010 to 2020, up to 392,953 residents.

Following the election of Jane Castor as Mayor in 2019, city officials wanted to commission a study of Tampanians’ needs and priorities. To gauge the opinions of the City’s diverse demographics and neighborhoods, HCP Associates partners with the City of Tampa to collect data, analyze results, and report the findings over several years. Each study obtains statistically valid information from residents across the City to gauge changing opinions.
Residents throughout the City were asked about their quality of life, satisfaction with the City Government, and questions related to a broad range of community topics, including the Mayor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiative. In addition to shedding light on resident perspectives, HCP provided results to the City with actionable insights.

The telephonic survey gathers feedback from a sample of those living within the City of Tampa to ensure accurate and illustrative feedback. The results of the study examine levels of trust and confidence in City government, recommending Tampa to a friend or relative for various aspects, and more. Residents also express their level of optimism about multiple facets of the City while also being able to shed light on a series of opportunities for local government to enhance life in the City of Tampa.

These and future studies will provide longitudinal analyses to understand how the City of Tampa has addressed these concerns and guide the City’s budget process.
